Jesus The Good Samaritan We Need By: Pastor Femi Adebajo Text: Luke 10: 30-35 30 Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ 1. “A Certain Man” – This stands for any man 2. “Went down” – This implies leaving the presence of the Almighty God (note Jericho is on the north of Jerusalem yet the bible says the man went down) 3. “Fell among thieves” – A person not in the presence of God will fall into the hands of the enemy who came to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10) 4. The effect of falling to the hands of the enemy: a) Stripped of cloth – loss of what man has acquired b) Wounded – Spiritually, Physically c) Death or partial death 5. “A certain Priest” – Implies those who want to do the work of God based on their human strength 6. A Levite – Religion cannot save without a relationship with the Lord. 7. Samaritan – Jesus Christ – a) He came to us even when we are yet to know Him b) He’s got compassion for us c) He did not look at our bad state d) He “bandaged his wounds” – He heals us of all infirmities e) He “poured oil” – He releases the Holy Spirit of God upon His anointed ones f) He gave us the ‘wine” – blood of Jesus which cleanses of all sins and gave us access to the Father once again g) He set man on His animal – restore his loss glory/kingdom h) He brought him to the “inn” – This is a place of rest and comfort – Church i) The Inn Keeper – Pastor to feed him with the 2 denarii j) Two denarii – The complete Word of God – Old & New Testament k) He is coming again!!
